I have been an athlete all my life until I had a two month gap with no sports. It was at this time that I realized I needed an outlet other than school and friends to keep me grounded and focused. I realized that by packing my schedule so full I was actually able to become better at time management and prioritizing. I believe being a college student athlete will help me get the most out of the college experience.
Throughout the last three years, I have been working on creating a dive team for my high school. I was met with a lot of push back regarding the lack of interest and funds for this team and was ultimately told to give up the dream of creating a high school team. However, I refused to give up on it and I worked and recruited girls for the last three years and finally, in my junior year of high school I was able to create a dive team. Within my school I am president of Students Against Destructive decisions. This group is trying to target teen substance abuse and mental health issues and help our community get the support and attention they need to become a better person both mentally and physically.
As a student-athlete, being healthy is the first step in being good. An athlete cannot be expected to perform without adequate amounts of sleep and a proper balanced diet. As for the student part, school will always come before sports as my life is going to continue and I will need a degree and a job to be a successful adult.
