3rd Final - Women’s 8 at Blake Haxton 2019;
My name is Claire Dunn, and after 6 years of club swimming and 2 years on my high school Varsity team, I made the life-changing decision to become a part of my city's rowing club team. At first, I was overwhelmed by all the new terminology and logistics of rowing as I had been so used to swimming. After I finally got the hang of it, I was able to focus on the technique and power of the stroke.
I have come a long way since my freshmen year of rowing. I couldn't have come as far as I have today without the support and encouragement from my coaches and teammates, who collectively make rowing the best part of my day. This type of strong community and reliance upon one another is why I would like to continue rowing in college.
When I'm in the boat, I focus my attention onto each stroke by having a cleared mind. Rowing is an outlet for me to leave the stress of everyday life and school, and channel all of that energy and strength into the boat. I come to practice every day with a clear head, drive, and willingness to improve, which is why I think I would make a great asset to your team.
COVID Due to COVID restrictions, rowing practice times have been reduced with my Club team. Luckily, my high school swim coach knows how passionate I am about rowing and I have been able to swim on the days I do not have rowing. My typical week: Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday - Rowing; Monday, Wednesday, Saturday - Swimming.
