I received the Standard Bearer Award my freshman year of high school. This award is given to someone who is a leader to his peers. This award has been given to a senior every year but the year that I won it. The summer after my Sophmore year I was selected to join the Mid-Atlantic Olympic Development Camp for four weeks, ending with racing in Sarasota.
I love the sport of rowing. It has been one of my main focuses in high school. It has allowed me to develop as a person and I wish to continue to fire in college as well.
I have been on Overland Trips. These trips are multiple weeks long and focus on developing younger kids into leaders. I have taken these lessons to my team by leading people to load and unload trailers, taking oars down and putting them back.
I use athletics to perform in school as well. I take the same attitude toward a piece as I do in the classroom: get it done the best way I can and I will be happy with my result.
I have done service trips with my school to help the mentally disabled. I have also done Camp Shriver. This camp allows kids with special needs to enjoy the amazing world of sports, without being judged by others.
