Team Captain - Middle School and Club
I have had a dream to play soccer at least at the college level for the last 4 years. I have had the opportunity to attend many college and professional soccer matches and love the relationships these players seem to have. The friendships built thru high school are incredible, but building the ones thru athletics at the college level are ones that can last a lifetime. Building the discipline in balancing academics and athletics at a high level I believe will only help me when I enter the work force and my future career.
On the field I was voted team captain for both my Middle School team and my Club team. It was a great honor, as I am one who leads by example and puts in the effort at training sessions to hold others accountable. Off the field, I am one of 5 kids and am the oldest in the house at the moment. I have 2 younger brothers and a younger sister that look up to me. With 2 working parents I am relied on to assist with homework and keeping the kids on task daily. My work ethic on the field and in the classroom show my siblings what hard work looks like and how it pays off.
Honestly, my parents have made it clear that academics are the priority and that my grades will dictate whether I can play soccer now and in the future. My focus will always be directed at academics first - but I treat soccer just like another subject after my schoolwork is done. I do self directed training daily, outside of regular soccer practices and games - as to me I view this as "studying". Balancing is tough - but I am a very driven person to reach my dreams.
I regularly volunteer in giving back in the community. Special interests have included working with sensory-needs kids in teaching them soccer, collecting food for a local food pantry, and helping with meals at a local church. Our club is very active in giving back and teaching the kids responsibility and compassion off the soccer field.
