WCHL High School Sports AAI Regional Play of the Week September 9, 2019
Summer 2019 Camps: Top Gun Elite Showcase (Rock Hill), Duke Elite Showcase, Wake Forest Elite Camp, Dave Doren NC State Camp , Davidson Elite Prospect Camp, David Cutcliffe QB College
I am from a large family, with three brothers and one sister, and grew up surrounded by sports and outdoor activities from a very young age. I have had to learn responsibility and leadership early, and have learned to balance a part-time job as well as balancing academics and sports as a student athlete.
I have always wanted to play sports in college from the time I was very young, and would love to play football at the next level. I would love to be able to use both my athletic skills as well as academic skills to get a degree at a good college while playing the game I love.
I have learned how as quarterback it is very important to lead my team well. One example is a game this season when we were down 16 points with 9 minutes to play, and I tried to really lead by example in my attitude that the game is not over until the clock runs out. We were able to come back with an overtime win, and I was surprised the next Monday in practice when I was awarded the WCHL high school sports player of the week. It was a reminder that I can lead on the field, and I also try to lead off the field. One example is by focusing on my academics as a student athlete and leading in the classroom, and also making sure that I show up at other teams events at school so we can support the entire school's athletic programs. I work hard to make it to things like our soccer, lacrosse and volleyball team's state championship playoff games to show support.
I think "healthy athletic performance" as a student athlete means working hard, staying healthy, training during the offseason as well in working hard in season, and staying away from unhealthy habits like drugs and alcohol. I think it also means making sure I have time for friends and family.
I am very active with my church and do many different things in the community such as serving meals at the homeless shelter and working in the food bank and YoungLife. I also have helped our football team run events for kids such as the Punt, Pass, and Kick event this spring and other local sports camps. I also have gone on mission trips and went to Guatemala last summer where I helped paint schools, plant trees, and work with children in villages. I think it is important to help others who don't have as much and especially help kids.
