Additional Questions:
Why do you want to be recruited to play sports in college?

I want to be recruited to play soccer in college because I aspire to play at a high competitive level after high school. If I am recruited, I would have the opportunity to further my growth as a player and possibly pursue soccer as a career at the professional level. But most of all, I would like to be recruited to play soccer in college because I love the sport. I do not want the end of high school to also mark the end of my career in soccer.

Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership in both areas.

On the field, I have played captain for both my club and school teams over multiple seasons. Every time I was appointed, my coaches told me it wasn’t purely because of technical understanding or skill, but due to the example I show to my teammates. My discipline and cool-headedness, understanding of teammates, assertiveness, and hard work are just a few attributes that I display and add to my teams. These traits bring out results in my teammates, and I notice that many of them tend to look to me as a role model and a leader. My hope is that my teammates can apply these characteristics to themselves and become strong leaders and captains themselves.

When I'm off the pitch, I show leadership in ways difficult to give ranks or titles to.

Please explain how you pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete.

I pursue healthy athletic performance as a student-athlete with the mental and physical health habits I’ve developed. Mentally, I try be an optimist (without naivety) and think with confidence, so I become sure and trust in myself. I also keep my mind working through school assignments and reading, which can help me think more intelligently on and off the field.

Physically, I keep a healthy, balanced diet and try to stay away from “junk foods,” making sure I only have them in moderation. Additionally, I train on the field many days of the week, and I work out often (quarantine/lockdown has forced me to do in-home workouts only, besides running). I also keep away and abstain from all distractions that could hinder my growth not only as a player but also as a person, such as drugs and alcohol.

Please describe how you are involved in service in your community and why these efforts are important to you.

Whether it be something as simple as washing cars for a fundraiser or making sandwiches for those who cannot always put food on the table, I am always open to doing service in my community. I try to take up any service opportunities available, because of the importance service has in my life. For as long as I can remember, my parents have always told me to be thankful for what I have, and think of and do as much for the less fortunate as possible. Because of this, I realize that it is not only that I “should” help those in need, but that it is a moral obligation to give assistance to the less fortunate—I truly care about them.
