Additional Questions:
Why do you want to be recruited to play sports in college?

I want to be recruited to a collegiate rowing team because I want to continue competing at a higher, more intense level of rowing. I developed a love for rowing my freshmen year of high school. To this day, every time I strap my feet into the foot stretchers of a boat or erg, a flush of excitement runs through me to push my limits and rise to the challenge to be better. Since those first strokes freshman year, I have been in awe of this sport and hope to continue rowing for the rest of my life.

Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership in both areas.

On the water as a Sophomore, I was chosen as the alternate for the Lightweight 4 Youth National Championship Regatta in Sarasota, FL. I took pride in making sure equipment was organized and strived to keep my four competing boat-mates focused in a high energy competition. I represented Merion Mercy Academy and my coaches proudly and responsibly. I believe I earned this spot, in part, because I drive my boat-mates to focus on what matters most; making the boat go faster. Next year I hope to be voted team captain because of my strong work ethic.

Off the water, I have demonstrated leadership in the classroom. I am developing my unique leadership style with poise and confidence. While some boldly do this, I lead quietly by sitting and listening to understand conversations, then offer my point of view. This quality is helping me evolve into a humble leader with the ability to understand a diverse array of backgrounds and opinions. My leadership is also demonstrated through the comments I receive each semester from my teachers. Qualities like these are essential when participating in athletics.

Please explain how you pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete.

A major contributing factor to my success in rowing is a healthy diet. Throughout workouts and races, I have realized the importance that how I fuel and hydrate has a direct impact on my performance.

Please describe how you are involved in service in your community and why these efforts are important to you.

I am passionate about how our choices impact our Earth. I am working on changing personal habits and behaviors to be more mindful of conserving resources. The most fulfilling experience thus far was volunteering with the Defenders of Wildlife organization. I participated in a nighttime event along the South Jersey shore tagging over two-hundred horseshoe crabs. This species allows the organization to observe the effects of population change on the environment. I have volunteered at an animal hospital cleaning cages and animal areas and had the opportunity to shadow a Veterinarian specializing in exotic wildlife.
