One of my friends on my high school hockey team began rowing and introduced me to the club. The fact that he picked it up quickly because we use the same muscle groups really made it attractive. I'm looking forward to getting on the water and learning to compete. I really enjoy going fast as a hockey player and pride myself on being one of my team's fastest skaters. Now, I can't wait to get to the point where I'm doing the same in a boat with my team!
Last week, I took a coxswain class and completed an erg session with the head coach at Halifax. It was a really interesting introduction to the cox role and I can see myself jumping in there to help out as needed. I am most excited about becoming a lightweight rower though and having that as an additional role I can fill for my team. Believe it or not, I really enjoyed the erg session. With all of the hard core skating drills and workouts I'm used to having to push myself with that kind of cardio and physical training.
This week, I will go to open house for the club and next week, I will attend the rookie camp to hopefully become an official member of the team.
I'm really excited about the journey ahead and I am not afraid of the hard work it is going to take to get there.
