Personal
Since the 2016 Summer Olympics, I was inspired to pursue rowing through my middle and high school years. As I am reaching the end of high school, I continue to enjoy rowing and the competitive nature of the sport. Rowing and crew not only helped my physical health, but my mental health as well. Because of the continuous benefits of rowing, I want to continue to row in college.
Through my own actions towards leading a more sustainable life to promoting sustainability in my community, I believe I demonstrated leadership amongst myself and others. In my town, I led a campaign for solar panels on public buildings and educating the community on reusable energy. I believe the only step towards progress is educating our community.
Throughout high school, my goals were to eat well, exercise regularly, and sleep. Although these goals might sound basic, it becomes challenging during the school year, when having to balance academics with one’s personal life. As a student athlete it is important to recognise one’s needs and to make time in your schedule for those needs. Eating well has been my primary goal as I have struggled in the past with getting daily nutrition in my day-to-day life.
My appreciation of nature and the environment led me to join my school’s environmental club. Through volunteering at beach cleanups, gardening, and trail building, I believe these efforts are crucial for my community. Within my school, the environmental club continues to promote recycling and volunteering opportunities. My efforts to become more involved in my community helped me gain a new perspective of what it means to be a more responsible and caring person.
