Rowing Additional

Spring 2020:
- We closed down due to Covid-19 in early to mid march, around this time we were practicing in fairly mixed line-ups adjusting to being back on the water from winter conditioning.
- When we transitioned from water to online we did virtual practices, and things to push each other as a team.
- Currently I meet once a week with my coaches in a coxswain circle, to discuss the reason we do certain drills and why they are beneficial. I am very much so looking forward to the day we can get 4s out on the water, but currently only doubles and singles are permitted.

  • I always work with the new novices at the learn to row that our rowing program provides. Teaching them the basics of rowing, and showing them the team culture.

Additional Questions:
Why do you want to be recruited to play sports in college?

I feel that the sport I play provides more direction, and structure in my life without it I feel adrift. I love rowing as a whole, it is one of the few sports that I have participated in that I feel a deep love for.

Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership in both areas.

I am a coxswain so I aim to be a leader in that context without micromanaging others. I am a camp counselor during the summer months at a music camp, when you work with kids, the younger ones in particular they look up to you.

Please explain how you pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete.

During both the off season, and when I get home I practice healthy eating patterns, and I exercise without the team, I am a long distance runner.

Please describe how you are involved in service in your community and why these efforts are important to you.

I work at a music camp for service hours, this is important to me because I enjoy watching kids learn to love music the way that I do. That expansion of education is important to me. I am currently working to get opportunities for my crew team in local parks, for clean up of trash. We row on the Anacostia River in Bladensberg and when it rains it floods with trash. When I see this it makes me think how much we need to give back, just one day of my entire crew team cleaning up trash would make a considerable difference.
