I feel that the sport I play provides more direction, and structure in my life without it I feel adrift. I love rowing as a whole, it is one of the few sports that I have participated in that I feel a deep love for.
I am a coxswain so I aim to be a leader in that context without micromanaging others. I am a camp counselor during the summer months at a music camp, when you work with kids, the younger ones in particular they look up to you.
During both the off season, and when I get home I practice healthy eating patterns, and I exercise without the team, I am a long distance runner.
I work at a music camp for service hours, this is important to me because I enjoy watching kids learn to love music the way that I do. That expansion of education is important to me. I am currently working to get opportunities for my crew team in local parks, for clean up of trash. We row on the Anacostia River in Bladensberg and when it rains it floods with trash. When I see this it makes me think how much we need to give back, just one day of my entire crew team cleaning up trash would make a considerable difference.
