Recipient of the Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award
Volleyball is my passion. I have been playing the sport since I was in 4th grade. I would like to take it to the next level and believe I am good enough to do so. Also, honestly, I would love to receive some financial assistance and I believe this is a great way to receive it.
At the end of my 8th grade year, I received the Archie Griffin Athletic Award. I was chosen by my teachers and coaches because I demonstrated great athletic ability in 3 school sports that year- Volleyball, basketball and Track. While competing in all three of those sports, I was an Honor student as well.
I believe a healthy athletic performance is not just your "physical" performance but it is also your "attitude" performance as well. In order to become a great athlete you definitely need to work physically hard to get strong but in order to get there you have to have a positive attitude not only about your abilities, but your teammates abilities. I believe having a good attitude about my sport enables me to be a better teammate and in return a better athlete.
Over the past couple of years I have volunteered at various sports events in our schools. I have worked the concession stand at Cross country meets, helped the junior high volleyball coach with teaching her athletes on how to become better players and have volunteered as a line judge at our city's recreation volleyball games. I believe these efforts are important because it gives me a chance to become more involved in my community. It also gives me a chance to become a mentor for younger athletes and gives them someone older to look up to and to aspire to be.
