I ran Cross Country and Track for the largest youth organization in the US from 4th grade through 8th grade. I medaled in distance and mid distance events at Philadelphia Championships and ran at Youth Nationals Cross Country meets, where my team placed second. My 8th grade year when I was 13, I medaled at the Philadelphia Championship with a 2:30 800 time.
In high school, I started in Cross Country and ran Varsity my freshman year. I helped my team qualify for districts and our team medaled and placed 2nd overall. I was the only athlete in my high school, across all sports, to be named to an All League team as a freshman.
For spring of Freshman year, I decided to try rowing. My high school had a fairly new team that was 2 years old and they were trying to build interest in the sport. There was no other rowing team in my county in Pennsylvania, so this gave me a chance to try a sport I couldn't before. They needed new rowers to fill seats, so I decided to try it.
I was placed in the Novice 8 and we had great success. I have listed all of our medals and wins above in my rowing profile.
Sophomore fall I was placed in the Varsity 8 and in Novice boats when needed. I often rowed two different boats during a regatta.
Winter of sophomore year, at 15, I raced at the indoor Main Line Slide and placed 6th out of 57 HS competitors with a 7:32.
Immediately after the competition, our program was shut down due to COVID. We lost our whole spring season.
Fall of my junior year, we were again not allowed to compete in the Philadelphia area due to COVID.
Winter workouts junior year were more running due to limits on indoor capacity and our team not being able to social distance in our small garage.
Spring 2021 we had a delayed start in the Philadelphia area due to COVID restrictions. We have had an abbreviated schedule. Our team boats have been mixed each week due to COVID exposures, COVID positive cases, etc. I have been in the Varsity 8 and JV8 in the 5 seat with a different group of girls each week.
In the JV8, we won our Manny Flick.
In the V8, we won our Manny Flick.
In the V8, we qualified through time trials at City Championships and moved on to the 2nd day where we placed 5th.
In the V8, we qualified past the first day of Stotesbury Cup and moved on to Semifinals the 2nd day. Our team achieved our highest place at Stotes since our team began 4 years ago.
At the Scholastic Rowing Association of America ( SRAA ) Nationals in May 2021, my Varsity 8 placed 2nd in the first elimination round and moved on to the Repechage. In the Repechage later that day, we again placed 2nd and moved on to Semi Finals on the 2nd day.
On the 2nd day of racing, we were on the stakeboats when the officials cancelled the regatta due to inclement weather and unsafe conditions in the river. Due to the fact that the Championship was not allowed to progress into the 2nd day, the committee based final rankings for teams on the 1st day of racing.
My V8 boat placed 6th overall at Nationals.
I enjoy being part of a team and reaching my goals. I love rowing.
I was elected Captain of the Crew team my Junior year by my peers on the team. During that time, I have had to continue to encourage my teammates and work with them and myself to discuss improvements we can make.
I also coordinate our team gatherings that are COVID appropriate to encourage team bonding and keep morale up during these uncertain times of competition.
I am also called upon often by my coach to discuss with my teammates their input on the boats, where changes may be needed and things fixed. Consulting time with my coach to advise and discuss what is working and not working.
Healthy athletic performance is being the best you can be while being mentally and physically healthy. The importance of healthy mental health is sometimes overlooked by athletes who zone in on physical only.
But, I have a family who taught me early when I used to run that being the best you can be at your sport is important but only when balanced with your happiness and emotional well being too. This is true in the team dynamic too.

Trenton Soup Kitchen, Summer 2019 Worked kitchen preparing food and once we opened to the public, servicing patrons.
Northampton Library, Summer 2019 Weekly volunteer as part of their summer high school program. Assisted in the book club program. Worked weekly with elementary children playing games, helping them with computer programs and reading to them.
Philadelphia Immersion, Summer 2019 Served at a variety of inner city locations which included Lady of Fatima, Twining Village, SPIN and Aid for Friends
