Personal
Studying abroad has been a long term goal for me, and to be part of a rowing squad overseas would genuinely just be an amazing experience. I would strive to represent New Zealand to the best of my ability, and would love to be apart of an international rowing team. To be able to make new friends, gain new knowledge and study abroad while also doing what I love would be a honour.
I was a student coach for our Learn to Row program, which involved teaching the rowers technique on and off water, along with organising and planning cardio and weight based workouts for the rowers. I was 1 of the 2 rowers selected out of our squad of 65.
Out of sport I was a student leader throughout primary, in which there were only 15 students selected out of our school of 1200. I am now currently a leader of the environment group at school and have applied for prefect and head boy, which is selected later this year.
As a student athlete, I make sure that I get at least 9 hours of sleep at night. I also follow a strict stretching routine each morning and night to ensure I am keeping my body safe. Each morning I start the day with a large glass of water to increase my hydration along with taking a water bottle to school each day to encourage hydration. I also take vitamin supplements to support my immune system and overall health. I make sure to eat healthy meals at all meal times, and even have a fitness instagram account to track my meals and workouts and keep myself accountable.
I participate in the beach cleanups and parks and reserves cleanups that occur monthly in my area which I value, as the environment is very important to me and I do what I can to help preserve our beaches and parks for the future. As a member and leader of the environment group at school I also use that to spread awareness of the risk our environment is at and help the school become a cleaner, greener place.
I am a volunteer at my local library, along with participating in local markets and supporting local business which is important to me as I love giving back to the community I have grown up in, along with supporting the smaller businesses, in a effort to prevent fast fashion and help the environment and the local businesses that may be struggling post-covid.
I work at a cafe/restaurant 20 hours a week, involving customer service, food preparation, cleaning, money handling and time management. This is important to me as I am gaining valuable work experience and learning how to manage my time and work ethic in many different situations.
