Additional Questions:
Why do you want to be recruited to play sports in college?

I want to be active in the college community as an athlete. I thrive on physical activity and healthy competition. I would be an asset to any team because I have such a positive attitude and I work extremely hard. I like being a leader, but I'm also a team player playing whatever role the team needs me to play. I not only want to achieve personal bests, but I want the team to set and reach high goals. I know my physical and mental health are at their best when I follow schedules and stay busy.

Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership in both areas.

I serve as a captain of the varsity swim team at my high school. I also serve on the National Honor Society.

Please explain how you pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete.

I value the physical workout in and out the pool. I love time in the weight room, but also time meditating and doing yoga. I know when my body needs a break, and I have enough respect for my body that I will take a break and find a different way to stay active. I play other sports, such as soccer and running track. I also value nutrition, and fuel my body in healthy ways in order to maximize recovery and power. I am a strong believer in the power of positive thinking and as a team captain, strengthened our team atmosphere by focusing on positive relationships and postive self-talk.

Please describe how you are involved in service in your community and why these efforts are important to you.

I enjoy volunteering in my community. I earned a Silver Cord for volunteering at least 50 hours every year of my high school career. One of my favorite organizations I love to volunteer with is Can Play Sports, formally Opportunity on Deck. I get the opportunity to teach underprivileged elementary-age students how to play sports, everything from soccer to volleyball. I also enjoy serving at local road races and helping with the local YMCA swim meets.
