I want to be recruited because I enjoy running so much! I want to get better in the activity that I love doing the most! Running is something I want to continue doing for the rest of my life and not just running but competing. College athletics was the next best step for me to continue to enjoy running and competing. It is also something I can do to help me think and is the highlight of many of my days.
I have been a team captain for both the track and cross country teams. As a team captain I always try to set an example by being kind to other athletes, displaying a positive attitude and staying focused . When other athletes have questions or ask for help, I try to give the best advice that I can so that they can improve. I also respect my coaches and allow them to coach me. I encourage others to do the same.
I am a lifeguard that is certified in first aid, CPR and lifesaving skills in the water. I have been working as a lifeguard for 3 years and have moved up into the senior guard position where I have more responsibilities and must set the example for other younger guards.
I have been competing in athletics since junior high and I have never had an injury. I take ice baths about 3 times per week and this really helps decrease my level of soreness. I make sure that I am eating and drinking enough and that I get at least 8 or more hours of sleep per night. Occasionally, when I have felt that maybe an injury was coming on, I consulted a therapist who helped me through it with various techniques such as massage, stretching, taping, etc..Another important aspect of staying healthy is making sure that I communicate with my coach if something is hurting or when I am feeling overly tired so that he can make adjustments that work for me.
I care greatly for athletics and therefore, I have enjoyed and dedicated time with the special olympics swim team in my area and with the best buddies club through my school. I enjoy helping people with special needs, to become the best they can be in the sporting events they have chosen. The best buddy club is important to me because I've been able to help my peers with disabilities to
to be included in opportunities that encourage friendships and leadership development. Some of the activities that we have done at best buddies includes bowling and making appreciation cards for the best buddies from other schools . We also have a winter dance where they can meet new friends and feel included and like they are apart of something bigger.
