Here is my son’s situation...
He is currently 16 (17 in January) and will graduate in 2008. He has been playing basketball since the age of 7. He is 5'9.5" and is a point guard. He has goes to Etiwanda High School. His GPA is currently about 3.0 in his junior year and has been taking the harder classes. He has tried out for the high school 3 times and has not made it for two reasons. One, defense needs a little work. Two, he cannot slam dunk..."yet". He has at least a 24" vertical and is a GREAT ball handler, passer and a REAL GOOD shooter.
I believe the reason he has not made his HS team is because they have been very highly ranked and can take the "cream of the crop". Even though this is true I know he is a very skilled and talented basketball player and would be a tremendous asset to any college team.
He has never been coached by anyone other than volunteers and me. I feel that if he was ever to be able to be coached by a professional that gets paid to coach and had the resources to training, it would be all over.
Chris is currently playing on the Varsity NJB league and would love to have any coaches come see him play. Games are played every Suday and are listed on the site by the Wed. before game Sunday. He is on the Inland/Aftershocks. http://njbll8.d4sports.net/leaguemanager/schedule.asp
