Palm Desert's two other seniors also had a strong game. Ronn See finished with seven points and 10 assists, while Jon Kaker added five points and 12 rebounds.

Palm Desert head coach Don Brady said he was happy with the seniors' contributions.

“I'm proud with the way we played and the leadership the seniors showed,” he said. “It was a difficult environment, and we competed hard, and the game could have gone either way.”

“This was one of the best teams I've ever coached, and I'm proud of our program,” Brady added.

The loss finishes the Aztecs season with a record of 19-8, after coming in second place in the Desert Valley League and winning their first postseason game 57-49 against Sierra Vista.

Aztecs' Coach Don Brady earns 300th career win
Tim Diffey • The Desert Sun • January 22, 2009

Palm Desert — In a game where there seemed to be more loose balls than controlled ones, the Palm Desert High School boys basketball team earned its second DVL win and coach Don Brady's 300th career victory in a hard-fought 58-53 game against Palm Springs on Wednesday.
Brady was proud of the way his seniors played in the victory.

“Our seniors made the difference out there,” Brady said. “They made plays and led the team with composure at the end of the game. They handled the press well and took good shots.”

“I was just sitting back and anticipating the passes,” Aztec forward Jon Kaker said of his three steals in the final 1:25 of the game. The turnovers proved costly for the Indians.

Aztecs rolls to boys hoops win over Indio
Aaron Unterman• The Desert Sun • January 17, 2009
INDIO — Palm Desert High School enjoyed a great night of shooting and rolled past host Indio 82-57 on Friday in Desert Valley League boys basketball.
The Aztecs made 28 of 48 (58.3 percent) field goals and went 22 of 30 (73.3 percent) from the free throw line. Meanwhile, the Rajahs finished 18 of 48 (37.5 percent) from the field and 13 of 23 (56.5 percent) from the foul line.
“We ran the floor real well tonight and definitely beat them on the boards,” Palm Desert coach Don Brady said. “We lost a tough one Wednesday night (to Cathedral City), but tonight everything seemed to come together.”
Palm Desert also held a 2-1 rebounding edge.
The Aztecs (11-7, 1-1) were led by senior forward Jon Kaker, who was unstoppable down low with 28 points on 9-of-14 shooting with nine rebounds. He was more than consistent at the line as well, going 10 of 12.
“We practiced all week at getting the ball down low to create opportunities,” Kaker said. “We did not have a lot of good practices before Cat City, so we made it our goal to practice hard these last two days.”
