'09 prospects: Franklin County
The high school football season in Kentucky opens this weekend and two more prospects to keep an eye on are Franklin County's Deron Hicks and Oakley Watkins.
Flyers coach Dennis Ledford said both are getting Division I looks.
The 6-foot, 185-pound Hicks is a wide receiver and defensive back. He has had over 2,000 yards receiving in two seasons for the Flyers and also 15 interceptions.
Also a basketball standout, Hicks is getting interest from Purdue, Bowling Green, Western Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky and Troy.
The 6-4, 270-pound Watkins will anchor the defensive line and also plays on the offensive side of the ball. He's another basketball standout and Ledford said he's an excellent pass blocker.
Watkins recently won the "King of the Camp" competition at Tony Franklin's Systems Camp at Auburn University. He is getting looks from a number of schools including, Louisville, Purdue, Troy, Middle Tennessee State, Yale, Army, South Alabama, Wofford College, Gardner Webb, Eastern Kentucky and Western Kentucky.
