Do you love competing in diving and think you have what it takes to compete at the college level? That’s awesome, you’ve come to the right place to learn about what you need to do in order to be recruited by college diving coaches to dive in college. The most important thing you must do is create an online diving recruiting profile so that coaches can find you, learn more about you and recruit you. College diving coaches will want to see your dives on video to evaluate your talent. Coaches will also want to know about your past performances and grades. Grades are super important because a coaches wants to know not only that you’re a great diver, but that you’ll also be academically eligible to compete and help your team.

HOW TO GET A DIVING SCHOLARSHIP

Once you decide to compete at the college level, you need to ask yourself if you’re talented enough to earn a diving scholarship. Getting an athletic scholarship at the college level can be done, but it requires a high talent for diving, good grades and making sure you maximize your exposure. At the college level diving athlete compete on the same team as the swimmers and the scholarships available are given out between both teams. Basically, the swimmers and divers all share the same scholarship pool. In most cases, only a couple of the scholarships available at each school go to divers.

Men

  • NCAA Division 1 – 135 swimming / diving programs – 9.9 scholarships available
  • NCAA Division 2 – 72 swimming / diving programs – 8.1 scholarship available
  • NCAA Division 3 – 223 swimming / diving programs – zero scholarships available
  • NAIA – 22 swimming / diving programs – 8.0 scholarship available
  • NJCAA – 14 swimming / diving programs – 15.0 scholarship limit

Women

  • NCAA Division 1 – 196 swimming / diving programs – 14.0 scholarship limit
  • NCAA Division 2 – 94 swimming /diving programs – 8.1 scholarship limit
  • NCAA Division 3 – 255 swimming / diving programs – zero scholarships available
  • NAIA – 26 swimming / diving programs – 8.0 scholarship limit
  • NJCAA – 14 swimming / diving programs – 15.0 scholarship limit

The most important thing to do is reach out to the coaches at the schools you are interested in and find out if they offer diving scholarships and send them the link to your online diving recruiting profile. Be sure to include lots of video and fill out your profile in detail. Help the coaches recruit you by giving them all the need to best evaluate you.
