Make Your Post-Workout Recovery Delicious

Top caliber athletes take post-workout recovery seriously. In order to maximize each training session, an athlete should be doing everything in their power to recover quickly after intense exertion. When it comes to post-workout nutrition, ideally athletes need to consume protein and carbohydrates within 30 minutes of exercise. Many times, finding or making a protein and carbohydrate rich snack can be difficult to do within 30 minutes. An easy solution to this problem is preparing a quick protein shake ahead of time.

Below is a great smoothie to make before you workout. You can pop it into the freezer and it’ll be ready to go when you arrive home. For longer workouts or away competitions, slightly freeze the smoothie, then toss it in your gym bag and it will thaw within a few hours.

Recipe For Protein Packed Almond Joy Smoothie:
8-10 (oz). Almondmilk Coconutmilk Blend
1 Scoop Chocolate Whey Protein Powder
1 Banana

Substitution Ideas:
If you are not a fan of protein powder, substitute it with 2 teaspoons of cocoa powder.  For additional nutty flavor, you can add flax seeds which will also provide additional omega-3s. Almondmilk Coconutmilk can be substituted for milk, however, coconut is a good source of medium fatty chain acids and has lower cholesterol content. Lastly, to mix up this recipe try adding seasonal berries such as strawberries or blackberries for anti-oxidants!
