Football Recruit Discusses How He Got Signed

Congratulations to all of the athletes who have already committed or signed their NLI for the class of 2014! BeRecruited sat down with several high school athletes who either committed or signed their NLI and asked them about their recruiting experience. We were able to get a sense of what worked well for them, what did not, and what advice they would give to fellow high school athletes.

Joe Somereve Jr. is one high school athlete who offered advice. Somereve, a soon to be 2014 graduate of Archbishop Stepinac High School recently signed with Castleton State College to play football!  Here is what Joe had to say about his recruiting experience:

How old were you when you started the recruiting process and what were the steps you took to begin the recruiting process?
I actually started when I was 15 during my Sophomore year. My Dad and my coaches had lots of film. It was very easy using BeRecruited.com.

How did BeRecruited help you make the connection with this school and/or coaches?
The coaches at Castleton saw me first through BeRecruited.com. I started a dialogue with them right away. They were impressed with the site.

Who was pivotal in helping you through the recruiting process and why?
My dad and my coaches. They were there for me throughout this whole crazy process. If not for them, I wouldn't be where I am now.

What was the most challenging part of the recruiting process, if any?
Actually, the waiting. You go through that 3 week period where it gets quiet for a while. I suggest having a hobby!

What tips or advice do you have for student-athletes who want to continue their sport in college?
Be driven at all times. Push yourself. Don't go half speed. You really need to be dedicated to the sport and the training that goes with it.

Thank you Joe for taking the time to share your recruiting experience with us. Congratulations on your success so far and best of luck at Castleton State College!
