For those of you who are currently seniors in high school and have not given a verbal commitment, you might be wondering if it is too late to play collegiate athletics. The answer is absolutely not!
While it is true that most high school athletes give a verbal commitment by the end of September of their senior year of high school, there are many schools still looking to complete their class of recruits. Now is the time to be extremely proactive by contacting coaches by phone and letting them know you are very interested in joining their team. Continue pressing coaches both by phone and email until they inform you that their roster is complete.
If your top choices have already given away their scholarship opportunities, there is always the option of walking on. If coaches inform you that their roster is complete, inquire about walk-on positions. You will most likely be happier by walking on to a top choice school without a scholarship than you would playing at a school you are just so-so about with a scholarship. Do not forget, you can always prove yourself within the first year and receive scholarship for your last three years.
Now is the time to demonstrate how badly you want to be a part of collegiate athletics. Seniors, if you are not already proactive, now is the time to start being proactive by ramping up your communication with coaches. Time is ticking, so get going!
